Imagine Muslims, Jews and Christians, children and their parents talking,
laughing, playing and learning together. Imagine people, young and old, forming
friendships based on acceptance and appreciation of difference; building bridges This vision is not ideal that can never be; through Walking Together programs it is an actuality in communities across North America.
Our MissionWalking Together is an international program which brings Jewish, Christian and Muslim children and adults together to learn to value and appreciate the diversity of religious expressions found in our communities. Walking Together Canada provides diversity training for Intergenerational groups, teens and for adults.
OUR Profile
Since 1999 Walking Together has spread to several communities across the continent. Last spring (spring, 2003), specially trained facilitators led almost 150 participants, young and older, in Walking Together programs in Elmira NY, Croton-on-Hudson NY, and Orange County CA. In the coming year, in addition to these sites, a new Walking Together program was established in Houston TX and our first Canadian program was launched in Edmonton AB. This year Walking Together will also be extended to include many other religious traditions including Buddhism, Hinduism, Sikhism, Unitarianism and some of the religious traditions of the First Nations (Native Americans). Walking Together is growing because people from many religious traditions realize that peace and understanding can only be realized when we reach out to children and adults with a message of love and understanding rather than fear and hate. Walking Together Canada is sponsored by the Edmonton Interfaith Centre for Education and Action. It was made possible by a generous grant from Canadian Heritage.
